Cooling Water

Normality

Corrosion inhibitor Chemical which protects metals by: (a) passivating the metal by the promotion of a thin metal oxide film (anodic inhibitors); or (b) physically forming a thin barrier film by controlled deposition (cathodic inhibitors).
Scale inhibitor

Chemicals used to control scale. They function by holding up the precipitation process and/or distorting the crystal shape, thus preventing the build-up of a hard adherent scale.

Biocide

Non-oxidising biocide:

  • A non-oxidising biocide is one that functions by mechanisms other than oxidation, including interference with cell metabolism and structure.

Oxidising biocide:

  • Agents capable of oxidising organic matter, e.g. cell material enzymes or proteins which are associated with microbiological populations resulting in death of the micro-organisms.
Bio-dispersants

Bio-dispersants are used to loose microbial deposits, which can then be killed by biocides or flushed away easily. They also expose new layers of microbial slime or algae to the attack of biocides. Used as an effective preventive measure, Bio-dispersants prevent micro-organisms from attaching to equipment and / or pipework surfaces to form deposits. Bio-dispersants can greatly enhance performance of biocide.

Unusuality

Rust Remover Rust Remover can detach rust materials from the system and disperse them in cooling water which can be disposed. It increases the effectiveness of both corrosion inhibitor and biocide can protect the clean/exposed metal surface from corrosion.
Passivation Agent

Passivation is a treatment process that forms a thin protective layer. This layer reduces chemical activity with air, water or other material contacting the surface. The passivation process varies depending on the type of material to be protected and the substances with which it contacts.
